Valentine's Day Cookies

Ingredients:

Cookies:

2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 salt

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

Icing:

1/2 c powdered sugar

3 Tbsp milk

Red food dye (optional)

Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions:

Step one: 

Preheat oven to 350 oF

Step two:

Cream together butter and sugar. Add in eggs and vanilla until combined.

Step three: 

In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to mixer and mix until combined thoroughly.

Step four: 

Roll the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut out cookies and place on parchment lined baking sheet. Re-roll dough until it is all used up.

Step five:

Bake the cookies for 8-10 min, till it’s golden brown on edges. Place them on a cooling rack for a few minutes to cool. 

Decorating

Step one: 

Combine powdered sugar and milk, it should have a thicker but still runny consistency. Create a basic icing using powdered sugar and milk. If it’s too thick, add more milk, if it’s too runny, add more sugar. If desired, divide icing in two different bowls and add red food dye to one to make it pink. About 4-5 drops. Mix until thoroughly combine.

Step two: 

You can put the icing in an icing bag and pipe on the icing or even just use a spoon and spread the icing with the back of the spoon. Sprinkle on any fesitive sprinkles such as white pearls, tiny hearts, and pink sugar. 

Serve:

Serve your cute cookies to your Valentine or just give yourself a nice cute sweet treat!

Tips:

Roll out dough thinner for crispier cookies or thicker for softer ones.
