Christmas Morning Gingerbread Coffee Syrup & Creme Brulee French Toast
This is a fun and delicious breakfast to have on Christmas morning. You can prep the french toast the night before so in the morning you can pop it in the oven while the Christmas morning fun and chaos ensues. And the coffee syrup doesn’t take much time but you can also prep that the night before. This is so delicious and I can’t wait for you to try it!
Gingerbread Coffee Syrup
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Creme Brulee French Toast
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
6 slices french bread, 1 inch thick
5 eggs
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
French Toast:
Step one:
In a saucepan melt butter. Add brown sugar and corn syrup. Mix until brown sugar is desolved. Pour this mixture into the bottom of a baking pan. Arrange 6 slices of 1-inch thick French bread over the caramel base.
Step two:
To make the custard, whisk eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, and salt. Pour this over the bread.
Step three:
Cover and refrigerate overnight. When ready, bake at a high heat for 35–40 minutes at 350 oF.
Gingerbread Syrup:
Step one:
Combine molasses, brown sugar, ground ginger, cinnamon, and baking soda. Mix until dissolved and store in a jar
Serve:
Add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of the syrup to your coffee (or 1–2 tablespoons for a sweeter flavor) and top with whip cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon to your liking.
